Very much worth the insanely high prices! Apr 12, 2012
By Armando N. Roman Red XIII has always been one of my favorite character designs. The red and orange colors, flaming tail, Native American hair style and markings, tattoos, missing eye...everything about this guy is rad and not over the top like many other FF characters are. He's been one of the most sought-after Play Arts figures for some time, and is always selling for big bucks. It got to the point where I didn't expect to own the figure because prices were going up so much, but I managed to luck out and get one recently. I'm glad I didn't give up on him- this is easily one of the best figures I've -ever- owned.
Let me repeat that for you: one of the best figures I've ever owned, as in every toy I've had since I was little, even back when the huge Megazords from Power Rangers were the be-all of toys.
You have to see Red XIII for yourself to really see how great the sculpt and paint are. Nanaki looks absolutely perfect, and easily tops the figure that came out in the late 90s. This is the first Play Arts figure I've bought, which might have been a mistake since the bar is so high now and others are going to have a tough time measuring up.
First up, the articulation is phenomenal. You can move the following: his mouth, head, neck, upper front legs, lower front legs, front paws, upper back legs, middle back legs, lower back legs, back paws, tail. Each part moves easily, though I'd be careful with the back legs, as the ones on my Red XIII feel much looser than the front legs. Even in the regular standing pose that you see in the stock picture above, Red looks awesome, but you can get some nice action poses out of him too. And if you have a good stand, the number shoots up even more. As I mentioned earlier, the sculpt and paint are top notch, with many little details sculpted into the figure, especially in the 'hair' areas, both on his neck and head, and those around his jaw. Red's flaming tail has a nice semi-transparent appearance as well, something I was pretty impressed by. How often do you see a solid painted flame on a figure instead of one like this?
Included with Red is Cait Sith, a nicely sculpted figure in its own right. Cait Sith can be posed nicely, but is pretty limited because of his size. You can move his head, arms, hands, legs, boots and tail around. He also comes with an alternate right hand to swap out with the hand that holds his megaphone. Cait Sith can stand up on his own or sit atop Red XIII for a nice display.
Of all the Play Arts figures that I've seen in-person, I have to say that Red XIII definitely stands out as one of the best, and is very much worth the money. At the same time, it's clear that it's a fragile figure and we all know that the Play Arts line has a bit of a problem with limbs breaking off and not staying on. I'm going to be extra careful with my figure because of that, especially since this figure's practically extinct. There's a reason why the others from Volume 2 are still easily found for regular prices while Red is 3-4 times as much. Buy this figure!

Finally Jul 16, 2008
By Maximillian Curtiss With series 2 of the ff Play Arts we finaly get a real Red XIII Action figere. Unlike the orignal 97 figure, this one is finely sculpted and very poseable. The detail on this is impressive even down the the fur and fire tale. Cait sith is really more of an accesery but still looks good. The window box display of the package is nice too....... Now maybe we will Finally get a Cid figure if a series 3 is made.......Hopefully.......

I bought this figure with no clue what it or final fantasy was, but bought it for its appearance. Red 13 is an absolutely excellent figure - the articulation is incredible, the sculpt is beautiful, and the appearance is of course magnificent. I have come to love it and in my oppionion, Nanaki is the best quadripedal action figure out there. I have never seen this amount of detail and thought put into a lion/wolf action figure. The little cat is more of an accessory, but a nice touch though. Overall, Nanaki is a truly fun, playable, awesome action figure.
