5How can you beat an Indy Smirk?  Jul 02, 2008 By Travis Illig "Software Engineer"
It's not educational, but it's extremely novel.

It's a Mr. Potato Head, so I don't think I need to explain about the way you can change his appearance, so let's skip that.

It doesn't come with a ton of extra pieces. Pretty much what you see is what you get - you get a different mouth and that's it. Of course, that's not the point of this particular potato - this is definitely more of a novelty item than your standard Potato Head.

The coolness is in all of the Indy-related stuff. They call the mouth you see in the photos an "Indy Smirk Mouth." There's a whip accessory you can place in the left hand. The right hand holds a golden idol. (The golden idol is molded to the hand - it isn't detachable.) If you push his hat down quickly, he plays a few seconds of the Indy theme; if you push his hat down for a couple of seconds, he'll play the whole theme. His coat is made of a thin colored cloth and can be removed if you take his arms off.

All in all, I like it quite a bit. It's not something I'd hand a toddler because I'm not sure how durable the hat is and I'm sure the coat could be pretty easily destroyed. It's not going to teach anyone anything but how the Indy theme goes, but then, the point isn't education on this one. I've got it on my desk at work and love it, and several people around here have commented on how cool it is, too.

If you're an Indy fan, it's totally worth it.

This is a very cute Mr. Potato Head. There is a problem with it being top heavy and falling over all the time. If it could stand without falling, it would be much more fun. I love the music in the hat. A great idea but needs more thought in how to make it sturdy.

5Indiana Spud  Dec 29, 2009 By Spudman
This Spud definitely has that "WOW" factor, not that any Potato Head lacks charisma and charm. Indiana Spuds was a gift, but had I seen him on a store shelf, I'd have plopped him in my cart disdaining the price sticker. He's that cool.
On the top of the clear plastic "box" is a circular hole above the potato man's hat, and on the box's front panel is an irresistible invitation - "TRY ME! Press hat to hear music." Press the hat and you'll hear a snippet of the Indiana Jones theme. Press three times and you'll hear three different short snippets. Press the hat and hold to hear all three snippets combined. Great stuff.

Indiana Jones Potato Head is easier to unpack than some others. Cut or remove a piece of tape to access the form fitting clear plastic shell within. Mr. Potato Head and his accessories then pop out with relative ease. A young child will need some assistance from an adult. Mrs. Spudman assisted me. Kids might not appreciate this ingenious touch, but inside the box covering the back and side panels is a yellow and red map of the Caribbean area including Central America and North South America. It's worth saving the box for this piece of brilliant décor.

Two included AAA batteries are required to power the music. Battery life will depend on amount of play and hat pressings. When the time comes, a Phillips screwdriver is needed to access and replace the batteries.

Play value - If the students with whom I shared Indiana Spuds are any indication, I think a little Potato Head fan will love this one. Of course using and combining pieces from other Mr. Potato Heads in the family will expand the play possibilities and configurations. Like the standard Mr. Potato Head, Indiana Spuds has a trunk door to access a storage area for extra pieces.
This Potato Head, for whatever reason, doesn't seem as steady on his feet as some others. He may fall over if not leaning on something or balanced just right. This slight tipsiness is understandable and forgiven.

Dapper in his faux fedora, imposing with his faux snakeskin whip, and ultra confident behind that trademark smear, he's Indiana Spuds, a Mr. Potato Head hero. Whether searching for lost arks, igniting sparks, or just playing in parks, he may be the coolest Mr. POTATO HEAD yet.

4Very Cute and Fun!  Oct 17, 2009 By Bonnie R.
This was a big hit when I bought it last year. The accessories are fun. I think the toy talks when you push the hat down.

This is a wonderful, classic toy that is sturdy and reasonably priced. It is great for the two year old set when there is a limit to what you want to buy them (small pieces). It also works for adult fans of the Indy movie, which is who I bought it for.

4Fun for a laugh!  Jan 12, 2009 By Ann
My boys ages 6 & 8 think this is the coolest potato head ever. He's not really designed to be played with as a potato head toy but is fun to push his hat and listen to the theme song. The novelty does wear off after a while though!
